[How-To] Google Maps 4.0 for Android hit, includes new layer called ‘Buzz’
February 9, 2010 by Daniel Rodriguez
So with the keynote from Google taking place today, where they showed off their new ‘Buzz’ feature, an update to Google Maps on Android arrived soon after. Google said that Android and iPhone OS would be able to take advantage of the new ‘Buzz’ and it didn’t take long for Google Maps 4.0 to hit the market. With the newest version of Google maps you get ‘Buzz’ and that is about it. Buzz is a unique idea and I was a bit skeptic at first glance. However, after giving it a good long shot on the new Maps application on Android, Buzz is a winner. It takes from Twitter, Google Wave, and Foursquare, simplifies it, then puts it all into one little package in the maps app. I will put up a slew of screen shots to give you an idea of how to get started! Check out the screen-shots after the break!
Google Buzz-Kill; A tool for Thieves and Rapists?
February 9, 2010 by Tony
Earlier today Google released Buzz, which I happen to love so far. But I noticed something after I posted my first Buzz. Something I found actually quite disconcerting; unless you disable your exact location, Google’s Buzz will post your address. Imagine a complete stranger having your home address to do with what they please.
Now, let’s take a little step back into internet history with a site we have all come to love or hate, Craigslist. Craigslist was great when it first started to get some tickets, sell stuff, buy used equipment, etc. (which I still use a lot btw) but it has now being used by many thieves for scams like these two examples here and here.
A problem I can already foresee on Google’s Buzz, is crooks or rapists seeing a location that you are at when you Buzz about something. And having seen an older one of your Buzz’s locations, these people could possibly find out where you are at and look at older Buzz’s which now they have the address to your home. In turn they could clean out your houseĀ if they find out you are on vacation or at a meeting in another city.
For the female Buzzer, a stalker could view your photo on one of your Buzzes, and if attracted, they could conceivable track you down to the location you are currently at and follow you home. This could be particularly dangerous if you are walking home alone from an event you just buzzed about.
My suggestion: use the location map when Buzzing around town but not with a specific address, otherwise, you can surely expect the unscrupulous to provide you someĀ unexpected company or become an uninvited treasure seeker into your home to grab your belongings while you are away on vacation – selling your items on Craigslist of course.
WebOS 1.4 to arrive February 15th?
February 9, 2010 by Daniel Rodriguez
Palm detailed a bit of WebOS 1.4 in January at CES. They said that February was a month for WebOS users to look forward too and it seems as though that destination is still on track. Precentral received an image from a member of their forum showing that an update is expected to be launched on February 15th. In the side notes the update is said to bring Phonebook Transfer (Import and Export), Adds video capture and editing capability, Calendar enhancements, and messaging enhancements. Palm also said back at CES that 1.4 will bring a performance increase as well as increased battery life. Not to mention that at Game Developers conference Palm is expected to release the PDK beta to the public. Flash 10.1 plug-in for the browser should also be hitting the App Catalog any time now. WebOS is on track to becoming the best OS. The race between Palm, Android, and Apple as far as innovation goes lately has been astounding. Let’s hope this year we get RIM, Microsoft, and Symbian back into the full fledge innovation game.

Godfather of Linux, Torvalds owns a Nexus One
February 8, 2010 by Tony
Linus Torvalds, founder of the Linux kernal (godfather) and current Linux project coordinator, is a proud owner of the Nexus One.
On his blog post, Linus tells us his thoughts of the new Google handset and how he enjoys it in his day to day use:
“But I have to admit, the Nexus One is a winner. I wasn’t enthusiastic about buying a phone on the internet sight unseen, but the day it was reported that it finally had the pinch-to-zoom thing enabled, I decided to take the plunge. I’ve wanted to have a GPS unit for my car anyway, and I thought that google navigation might finally make a phone useful.
And it does. What a difference! I no longer feel like I’m dragging a phone with me “just in case” I would need to get in touch with somebody – now I’m having a useful (and admittedly pretty good-looking) gadget instead. The fact that you can use it as a phone too is kind of secondary.”

New 13 inch Macbook Pro arrival imminent?
February 8, 2010 by Tony
Reports are starting to hit a flurry on the Interwebs regarding a new Macbook Pro that is set to arrive soon. Today, Engadget reported that BestBuy had inventory screen shot which shows a Macbook Pro SKU deleted. The SKU MB9900LL/A, is for a 13.3 inch. Macrumors stated “that the company frequently makes changes to its inventory system in anticipation of future announcements without any official knowledge from Apple. This is not always the case, however, as an unidentified “mobile computing” device that appeared in Best Buy’s system last May did turn out to be a revised MacBook that was released two days later.” Hit the read link for more info.
