A tipster at Gizmodo has leaked some details to the world about the new ‘Gooogle Phone’ AKA the Nexus One. Pricing has been released and it looks like this may be the official price. So the phone is manufactured by HTC, will work on any GSM network, (3G only on T-Mobile) and will be sold by Google!? Here are the details we’ve got so far:
Google will NOT call it the ‘Google Phone’ but rather the ‘Nexus One’ when it is launched.

The amount of buzz Google has generated by giving out the Nexus One to their employees has been explosive. So explosive that Google seems to feel confident enough to have a head start on the CES event that is scheduled just days after Google’s event. Google sent invitations to a lucky sum of tech sites and press organizations for an event on January 5th in their home town.

The peeps over at T-Mob News have stumbled upon some interesting information for the Nexus Google phone.
Our sources are confirming a January 5th date, 9am, ordering through Google ONLY. Sadly, still no word on pricing.
T-Mobile has gone and made their expected support of the Google Phone aka Nexus One “official” this morning, albeit in a vague sort of way. According to our T-Mob News sources, through an internal system T-Mobile is reporting they are getting an Android device but won’t do any support for it other than “billing, coverage, features and rate plans. Some excerpts contain the following information:
- Support for this device including troubleshooting and exchanges wil be managed by Google and HTC.
- T-Mobile will offer service support including billing, coverage, featuers and rate plans.
- Stay tuned for Additional details and StreamLine content to support the Google Android phone in early January.
- Keep all information regarding this launch confidential until a formal announcement by Google is released.

So Palm sort of made a booboo when WebOS was first launched. As many Palm Pre and Pixi users already know, there was an app storage limit put on WebOS which basically allowed users to download a maximum of about 30 3rd party apps. We have seen this struggle on Android (which seems to be somewhat fixed on Android 2.0) and then with the Pre. Well rumors started going around saying this limit was finally going to be lifted and today Palm delivered.
WebOs 1.3.5 is now available over the air on Sprint and includes a handful of bug fixes and feature changes including improved battery performance, faster OS navigation on the Pixi while multiple applications are open, removal of the app storage limit, and some new App Catalog changes. Palm is scheduled to make an appearance at CES and it was once thought that 1.3.5 was going to be a big highlight. Now that the update is out we will have to wait and see what else Palm has in store for CES next month. Stay tuned…

Word is out that Android 2.0 or greater is officially coming to the G1 and possibly the MyTouch 3G. AndroidSPIN says that they have a “source” that says Android 2.0 and/or 2.0.1 are already on some legacy devices. We are hoping this means both the G1 and MyTouch 3G but we also are hoping it doesn’t end there. No device except for the ‘Nexus One’ have Android 2.1, but hopefully when that becomes available to the public, the firmware will also be released on these other devices. Android has come a long way in the jump from 1.6 to 2.0.1 and this update will be a very heart warming addition to the legacy phones that got people excited for Android in the first place. No reason for Google not to support its first comers. This is all still just rumor as far as we are concerned but it is something we expected to happen for a long time now. Now if Google could just give some word so G1 users and MyTouch users can breathe a sigh of relief.
In other news, the good folks over at Droidforums.net have provided users with a list of instructions on how to get WiFi tethering on the Motorola Droid. If you are already content using the “No hack needed” PDANET that is available in the Android Market, which allows Bluetooth and USB tethering, then this isn’t worth the work. If not, then you should definitely head over to the Droidforums and follow the step by step instructions on how to root your Droid and allow WiFi tethering. Build your own Verizon MiFi out of the Motorola Driod! ^^ Of course you run the risk of bricking your phone during the root process, which neither us, nor Droidforums, are responsible for. If you are not familiar or comfortable with rooting your device then you definitely should not give this a try. Hopefully WiFi tethering can become somewhat of a norm sometime in the future.

Earlier this year, AT&T’s CEO Ralph de la Vega spoke at UBS’s annual Global Media and Communications Conference and stated the company’s idea to charge heavy network users more money for their activities, noting that a mere three percent of smartphone users suck up some 40 percent of the company’s traffic.

Earlier this year, electronics retailer Best Buy announced a new mobile backup service called mIQ. Designed to compete with similar services like Apple’s MobileMe or Microsoft’s My Phone, mIQ offers up to 1 GB of storage space in the cloud for photos, video, contact and calendar information, SMS messages, and more. However, unlike its competitors, mIQ has a couple of distinct advantages: it’s 100% FREE and anyone can sign up to use it.
