Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2 Outed in Spy Shots!

Verizon HTC

Side

Now that T-Mobile’s Touch Pro 2 is on sale today, Verizon beautiful version, complete with 3.5 mm jack is in tow. These photos leaked by the forums of PPCGeek show the Verizon branded handset in all it’s HTC WinMo glory. Compared to the horrendous color of the T-Mobile handset, which is also missing the 3.5 mm jack and comes with a LARGE dongle, the Big Red’s version is a much more attractive phone. Now that we know Sprint is launching their best looking version of the handset September 3rd, AT&T may not be far behind either. Packing a 528 MHz Qualcomm 7600 processor and sporting 480 X 800 screen resolution with bluetooth, you have a very nice looking phone on America’s network. Just don’t forgot the bloatware that comes with Verizon phones.

Blackberry 9700 with Trackpad, 3G, 3.2 MP Camera is Coming to T-Mobile

t-mobile-blackberry-9700

The Blackberry 9700 comes with a trackpad which is probably one of best hardware moves recently made by RIM. Too bad this wasn’t included in the Blackberry Tour. But alas, one of ultimate Blackberry’s in a small form factor packing a huge punch with 3G, Bold battery life, 3.2 Camera and a Tavor processor, means this is one of the hotest new RIM phones coming to market soon. With T-Mobile at the helm of the release of this new model, this could make a lot of converts over to T-Mob’s network if the pricing is right.

  • 3G device – GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS (Bands: 850, 900, 1800, 1900)
  • 480 by 360 display, beveled edges
  • 256 megabytes of internal memory (same as Curve 8900, 8520)
  • 1550mAh M-S1 battery (same as Bold)
  • 3.2 megapixel camera, with flash and auto focus
  • Processor: Not 100% sure actually, but am hearing its a Tavor processor that may be running even a bit quicker than the Bold’s 624MHz processor (definitely seems snappy)
  • GPS, WiFi (UMA capable but we’ll see what happens there), and all the normal stuff you’d expect on a BlackBerry smartphone

POLL: How many of you are going to buy the HTC Touch Pro 2?

HTC Touch Pro 2

HTC Touch Pro 2 Pricing Only $279? Earlier Pricing Was Wrong?

TP2

Yesterday, reports started to surface the T-Mobile pricing for HTC’s Touch Pro 2 could be had on a two year contract $349.99. Today we find that this pricing could be wrong. Could it be from the backlash of customers who looked forward to buying the premiere WinMo device the Touch Pro 2 until they found out the price? Or was it that T-Mobile got some feedback about the pricing and decided since AT&T, Sprint and Verizon are all going to get the same phone in different variations, they had better become more competitively priced to get some new subscribers first?

For whatever its worth, we hope that the $279.99 on a two year contract is more in line with subsidy (we hope) T-Mobile plans to implement.

Is Nokia Dumping Symbian for Maemo?

screenshot-maemo

Considering Nokia’s acquisition of Symbian was completed just three months ago for $410 million, this may not be true. We do know that Nokia is deploying the Maemo Platform software stack for Nokia’s Internet tablets. The Maemo Platform is based on open source and has been developed by the Maemo Software department within Nokia in collaboration with other open source projects like the Linux kernel, Debian, and GNOME.

But the German edition newspaper, Financial Times reports that Symbian cannot keep up with Apple, RIM and the new Palm webOS in User Interface category. According to the report, Nokia is going to equip several devices in the near future with the Maemo platform.

“Symbian is far too cumbersome to work with modern operating systems keep up,” said the environment of the Finnish group. “Symbian is far too cumbersome to work with modern operating systems keep up,” said the environment of the Finnish group. “We must react.”  Officially wanted to Nokia on Monday will not comment. “We do not comment on speculation,” said a spokeswoman.

Nokia had to compensate with Symbian this year with their release of the flagship device the N97 by adjusting the OS to be more iPhone like. “Nokia has identified that it is a problem with Symbian,” said analyst Tony Cripps by British consulting firm Ovum. The long term outlook is Mobile handsets, Netbooks and computers will be merging together. This would allow Nokia to propagate the use of the new technology to take advantage of the changing industry.

Perhaps Symbian will become the lower end handset mainstay OS and Maemo will become the standard for Nokia’s  high-end handsets. Symbian still leads all others in mobile phone OS sales.

Blackberry Launches Own Developer Blog

original

Seeing that the PreDevCamp meetings did very well this past weekend, Microsoft’s Windows Mobile development center calling on iPhone developers to make apps for WinMo, Google’s own I/O event in May was a sold out success and now Blackberry is trying to court it’s own group of developers by starting their own development blog.

Considering the craze of apps being built for all platforms and salaries ranging from $90K to $120 for an experienced iPhone developer, RIM is trying to get into the game as quickly as possible by sponsoring a one-stop-shop information hub for interested development groups. Called the Blackberry Development Zone, the blog will feature three distinct areas that will be covered on the RIM platform:

  • Technical Discussion and Insights – Including best practices for BlackBerry development, code snippets, and general technical information on how to make applications users will come back to time and again.
  • Market Insight – Discussions of trends and opportunities in mobile development and mobile applications that RIM sees from breathing the mobile industry every single day.
  • Developer Engagement – We have substantial plans to get more engaged with our regional and local developer communities all around the world, from Australia to Argentina and everywhere in-between.  We will be using the BlackBerry Developer’s Blog to communicate events in your region and opportunities to meet other BlackBerry developers.

So if you are interested in writing apps for the Blackberry OS, better head on over to their site and register.
