Blackberry Apps: Sakhr Does Voice-to-Voice Automated Translation

Star Trek had a fictional translator as working device on their T.V. show. Hoshi Sato, the communications officer on the Enterprise in Star Trek: Enterprise was the character that used the translator on the show. It was used to translate from English to one of many alien languages and vice versa. This was considered an ‘improbable technology’ at the time it was written for the show.

Fast forward a few years later and a company by the name of Sakhr. Sakhr is the number one ranked for Arabic translation by the U.S. Government andthey are the pioneer in Arabic natural language processing (NLP) technologies, with 15+ years of research and a corpus of billions of words. The company has developed an app for the Blackberry to translate from Arabic to English and English to Arabic. Seeing is believing, so watch the video below.

Touch UI Version Of WinMo 7.0 To Release February 2010

WinMoTouchFLO

Microsoft is plotting to adopt a dual-platform strategy to compete with Android and the iPhone. Microsoft is officially launching WinMo 6.5 on October 1st, 2009 and they state that they will have an additional upgrade version with a touch interface by February 2010. The plans aren’t to phase out WinMo 6.5 but to augment their selection of phones with a lower priced version of the OS.

We posted a video earlier this week of a new version of HTC’s TouchFLO 3D 2.6 that was very sexy. If this gives us an indication where WinMo is headed, we would have to say definitely in the right direction.

RIM Including Full Version of Flash & Silverlight Support Next Gen Browser

rim-flash

Here that? That is the Blackberry nation screaming yippee! RIM is ready to include the FULL version of Flash and Silverlight in their next generation Blackberry browser next summer. Although by that time Opera, Bolt and perhaps SkyFire will already support the full version of flash before then. This still won’t make Blackberry’s browser obsolete in any way whatsoever. Why you ask? Because RIM has been testing new phones running on both HSPA and LTE next generation (4g) networks. According to RIM, the have successfully achieved 10Mbps+ download speeds on the next generation LTE networks.
