Sprint’s First Android Device The HTC Hero Arrives At Last

SprintAndroidSprint’s HTC Hero makes an appearance via an email notice just moments ago. So if you are a Sprint customer and have been hankering for your own Android touchscreen phone (and haven’t already bought the Palm Pre), then head on over to Sprint’s website and place your order. The handset will set you back $179.99 AFTER $100.00 mail in rebate.

Windows 7 Mobile Screenshots Spied

WinMo7Leaked screenshots of WinMo 7 have made their way over to the fellows at PocketNow. They state the pictures were supposed to be for WinMo 6.5.1 but believe that it will become part of WinMo 7 in the end.

1. These pictures were supposed to have been for Windows Mobile 6.5.1; we’re guessing it will get absorbed and rolled into Windows Mobile 7 as the 6.5.1 leaks aren’t anywhere near as nice as what we’re seeing.

2. The top picture shows vanilla Windows Mobile 6.5; the bottom screenshot are the re-designed Windows Mobile user interface–call it 6.5.1 or 7 or whatever you will.

3. Most importantly, what Microsoft is doing looks hot!

4. The soft keys are back in full force, and not like some of the later leaked 6.5 builds. We’re talking traditional soft keys with maybe soft menus.

5. And here’s the OMG moment. Dude, where’s my Start Button?? With Windows Mobile 6.5 getting marketing push to be called a Windows phone complete with the Windows flag logo and all, it looks like Microsoft.

CONFIRMED: Blackberry Storm 2 Arriving On Wednesday

Storm-2

Although the Blackberry Storm 2 made a short appearance on the Verizon website, my sources have confirmed the release date of 10.21.09 as set in stone. So for all of you Blackberry fanatics that aren’t interested in the Motorola Droid or Calgary, here is your chance to snap up the latest Blackberry Storm (2).

Verizon Licensing Deal With Lucasfilm Ltd. Includes R2D2 Droid?

R2D2With the big announcement of Motorola’s/Verizon’s Droid over the weekend, we noticed the Lucasfilm Ltd. trademark disclaimer information at the bottom of the Droid commercial. Now press kits started showing up with R2D2 and a lightsaber and containing a card revealing the release date as 11.09 with www.droiddoes.com website.

Could Verizon/Motorola/Lucasfilm Ltd. be forming a long term partnership and using the Star Wars empire as a huge marketing push to become the number one device/carrier? This is theoretically possible when you look at the evidence of the trademarks below. Motorola could have chosen another name for it’s handset but settled on DROID instead. Infringing on Lucasfilm’s trademarks wouldn’t be a wise idea but joining them in a partnership would be utter genius.

There are several trademarks that are active for the word Droid. Many of these are owned by or filed by LUCASFILM ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY LTD. CORPORATION CALIFORNIA P.O. Box 29919 San Francisco CALIFORNIA 94129 and their Attorney of record, Ms. Rosemary S. Tarlton.

One of Lucasfilm’s trademarks for Droid states: IC 009. US 021 023 026 036 038. G & S: Interactive entertainment software and accompanying instruction manuals sold as a unit, namely, computer game software and manuals sold as a unit, video game software and manuals sold as a unit; video game software, computer game software, and pre-recorded CD-ROMs and DVDs featuring games, films, music, computer game software, and video game software; downloadable video game software and downloadable computer game software.

Another one owned by Lucasfilm is: IC 028. US 022 023 038 050. G & S: toy action figures and related accessories. FIRST USE: 19770711. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19770711

And another is: IC 028. US 022 023 038 050. G & S: Toys, games and playthings, namely, hand held units for playing electronic games; [skateboards;] toy action figures and accessories; construction toys; toy building blocks and connecting links for the same. FIRST USE: 19990531. FIRST USE IN COMMERCE: 19990531

I hope that we see something come to fruition out of this partnership with Lucasfilm Ltd. other than sending out R2D2 press kits.

VIDEO: 19 Minute Hands On With HTC Tattoo

Italian site hdblog.it compiled two videos totaling 19 minutes which delves deeply into this Android OS. Please keep in mind that the blogger’s native language is Italian but I found it pretty easy to understand his review.
