Droid out November 6th for $199.99 and comes with the all new Android

Today Verizon announced its widely anticipated phone, the Motorola Droid. It will be out November 6th for $199.99 on contract with Verizon after a $100.00 mail in rebate. It comes with Verizon’s visual voice mail, Android 2.0, and Turn by Turn GPS navigation built into the Google Maps app. This phone is the most exciting Android phone since the launch of the OS from Google and it certainly has its reasons. Some of the notable features include: a 3.7″ Multi-touch capacitive screen at 854×480 resolution, a 5 megapixel dual LED flash, a 4 row slide out Qwerty keyboard, and inside there is a TI OMAP 3 processor which is the same top of the line processor you’ll find in the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre. One of the most notable changes in the Droid compared to other Android devices out right now is it comes with Android 2.0.

The Motorola Droid will be the first to hit the smartphone market with Android 2.0 and there are a bunch of notable features included. Android 2.0 now comes with multi-touch support built into the OS, turn by turn navigation built into Google Maps, a Facebook widget that integrates your Facebook friends into your contacts, a new feature called ‘Quick Contact’ which allows you to tap on a contacts picture, which will slide out a small tab giving you quick and easy method to choose how you want to contact that person, a new iteration of the Chrome browser built into the device which has a few UI changes and is much faster and smoother browser experience compared to previous versions, some nice icon changes on some of the apps, and an improved more vibrant UI throughout the OS. The Droid is the current talk of the town and it is going to be a hard phone to pass up this holiday season. Thought I would never say it but, Apple and Palm are going to have some catching up to do.
