Ploy to bring AT&T down, join in on the fun!

Dan Lyons of ‘Fake Steve Jobs’ wants to offer some pay back for Ralph De La Vega’s proposal to impose his will on Data heavy iPhone users. Last week Ralph De La Vega stated he wanted to do something about data abusers who are apparently abusing their right to the “unlimited” data plan which they are over charged for every month. Ralph says we need to educate users on what a Megabyte actually is. So Dan Lyons wants all AT&T subscribers this Friday, December 18th at 12:00 PM Pacific time (3:00 PM Eastern) to open a data intensive app or browser and try to use the network data as much as possible for one full hour (My suggestion is PDANET with a Jailbroken iPhone and download a a Movie or watch YouTube in HD. This is in hopes to bring down AT&T’s network to help bring to light that the users aren’t the problem, rather the poor network foundation. So let’s all be apart of this extravaganza! Spread the word on Facebook and Myspace, Re-Tweet it on Twitter, or do whatever you can to get the word out there. AT&T needs to make changes, not the paying customers.

Here is exactly what Dan Lyons had to say:

“On Friday, December 18, at noon Pacific time, we will attempt to overwhelm the AT&T data network and bring it to its knees. The goal is to have every iPhone user (or as many as we can) turn on a data intensive app and run that app for one solid hour. Send the message to AT&T that we are sick of their substandard network and sick of their abusive comments. THe idea is we’ll create a digital flash mob. We’re calling it in Operation Chokehold. Join us and speak truth to power”!

Android 2.1 Ported To Motorola Droid

Sholes.info reportedly ported over the Flan Android 2.1 on Verizon’s Droid handset. Although the port was successful, there were quite a few problems with bringing over this build to the Droid. Below is a summary of a few of them:

1. Keyboard backlight is no longer functioning properly. The only way to get the keyboard to turn back on is to use the Power widget and toggle the brightness. This is a one-time fix and needs to be done repeatedly.

2. Superuser and the su binary for local root and escalated privileges no longer works (even if pushed to the device). If you drop to a terminal and execute “su” it seems like it wants to do something and then ultimately gives a “permission denied.”

3. Landscape mode app drawer acts weird. The little “home” icon on the screen is off-centered and when pressed launches the Camera application.

4. The Messaging app still notifies you of Messages even when it’s set not to.

5. The carrier shows up as T-CDMA 64

6. General, non-repeatable inconsistencies with the home screens. Issues like no longer being able to swipe to change home screens, or not being able to launch apps from the home screen.

7. Automatic brightness is also not working.

8. App drawer not working properly in landscape, probably because the phone it is for does not have a landscape mode in home, therefore, app drawer cannot handle displaying in landscape properly.

9. It seems that notifications are fairly jacked up as well. For instance, the Email app always makes a sound because the Default sound is set. But attempting to change it to “silent” results in a crash of the Email app itself.

Feeling like taking a stab at it with your coding guts? Here is a link to the image file. PLEASE NOTE: We are not responsible if you brick your phone.

64 GB memory in 2010 smartphones?

As we all know, every year Apple does what it can to raise the bar without changing the OS experience and fragmenting Apple’s hardware when it comes to the iPhone.  They usually have an evolutionary bump in specs on both the iPod Touch and iPhone. We have seen the jump from 4GB to 8GB, then 16gb, and now 32GB. 2010 might bring us 64GB

Toshiba announced the launch of their new 64GB embedded flash chip. Toshiba is the same manufacturer for the current flash chips you see in the iPhone 3GS. With flash memory growing in storage capacity and dropping in price, it is likely we will see this new chip in the next generation of phones in 2010. The Palm Pre and Pixi both only have 8GB, the iPhone 3GS has 32GB, and most Android phones rely only on the external storage provided by an SD card. The cheaper and beefier flash could help Android phones drop that annoying app storage limit which is crippled by the lack of on board storage. Personally I am for Microsoft to get their hands on this so I can have a 64GB Zune HD.
