U.S. Recovery Act Includes $182 Million For Broadband; Still Lags France

Finally, the U.S. government is today announcing its first $182 million of awards for the broadband including fiber optic programs. The administration stated that it plans to hand out an initial $2 million for broadband projects in the next 75 days. This is all fine and dandy, but France just announced their initiative this week which would cover the country in 100Mbps and spending EUR 4.5B on the deal to get it done. French President Nicolas Sarkozy is mandating that 70% of the country must be covered with, get this, 100Mbps of fiber speed in the next ten years. How wrong is that?
