Palm Pre and Pixi ‘PLUS’ specs leaked

Palm’s CES event is not until tomorrow, but today has already been a pretty big day for them. We heard they will be on AT&T earlier and now PhoneArena got a hold of their Pre/Pixi ‘Plus’ specs. The versions displayed in this list shows EVDO Rev-A so we assume this will be the Verizon version, however it could end up on both Sprint and AT&T. The only differences internally, is the Pre is now 16GB (previously 8), and the Pixi now has WiFi. There may be more to the story about the ‘Plus’ but we will have to wait and see what Palm says tomorrow at CES. Another thing to notice is in the image of the Pre. The center button seen on Sprint’s Pre is non-existent. The center button’s only purpose previously was to bring you to card view, but this can already be done by a simple swipe up on the Pre and with the Pixi you can just tap the gesture area. So removing the center button is a huge ‘Plus’ (pun intended) in my opinion. Let’s hope all of Palm’s secrets are not out of the bag just yet. We don’t want their CES event to be a bust.

Motorola BackFlip becomes official, includes Moto BluR

Motorola finally announced the Motorola BackFlip and says it will include Motoblur. We knew the Backflip was coming but we didn’t know when. Motorola says it will be available on a North American carrier in the first quarter of 2010. They fail to specify which carrier but they offered a few specs. The phone has a 5MP Camera, WiFi, and will have 3G. Most of the specs are most likely going to match that of the Motorola CliQ. The phone looks similar to the CliQ but has a different sliding mechanism. You can actually flip this phone inside out to hide the screen and there is a touch pad on the rear. They say developers will have an API available to them to manipulate the touch pad on the rear. I think the idea of the phone flipping backwards is not that appealing for most people but we will have to see how it plays out. Per our previous post, this phone will eventually have Android 2.1.

All Motorola devices to get Android 2.1, Droid will also get Flash 10.1

CES pre-show is in full swing and news is coming out like crazy. Motorola announces at their keynote that Android 2.1 is coming to ALL Motorola handsets with Android. This includes the CliQ and any other Motorola phone with Moto Blur. Such a ray of sunshine for those who were starting to feel a little jealous that Motorola gave Android 2.0 love to the Droid and left the CliQ on Android 1.5. However the Droid is getting something the CliQ is not.

Motorola also said that the Droid’s hardware is capable of Flash 10 and will be getting Flash 10.1 very soon. Motorola says that the OMAP 3 in the Droid handles Flash 10.1 quite well. Flash 10.1 support will be pushed to the Motorola Droid in an update over the air, so hang tight folks. It is coming.

AT&T announce two new WebOS devices to launch on AT&T in the first half of 2010

AT&T is on a roll today. They don’t want to have just one flagship handset (iPhone) anymore or they are losing iPhone exclusivity, we are not quite sure, but after just getting wind that they will have Android phones, we now hear from Ralph Del La Vega at their CES keynote that AT&T will sport two WebOS handsets in the first half of 2010. No specifics just yet but we will update the post as soon as we hear. Palm Pre and Pixi would be a couple of good guesses. Also we have heard rumors that Verizon will be carrying a Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus. Maybe these two new phones with the added ‘Plus’ will also be what hits AT&T. Good news for Palm, bad news for Sprint.

Dell, HTC, and Motorola smartphones coming to AT&T with Android in 2010

AT&T’s news press room is giving anyone who will listen the scoop on 2010. AT&T will be offering a new SDK for developers and a few Android phones in their new ‘Bring apps to all‘ initiative. Today AT&T announced they will be offering 5 new Android handsets in the first half of 2010 from Dell, HTC, and Motorola. They don’t say specifically which but we will do our best to venture a guess. The Motorola handset will feature Motoblur and what AT&T says is “a unique new form factor”. So they must be talking about the rumored Motorola Backflip which was expected to come sometime in 2010. As far as Dell goes I think it is safe to assume this will be Dell’s Mini 3 which launched in China earlier last year. Hopefully it will come with WiFi and no dumbing down of features. HTC is the trickiest, we could see the rumored Hero 2, the Dragon, or even the HTC Legend which looks to be a successor to the Hero. Whatever it ends up being we are expecting some Android on AT&T which is currently the largest GSM carrier in the United States. Once this happens Android will be on all 4 major carriers leaving behind iPhone who is stuck with AT&T and Palm witht he Pre/Pixi who is stuck on Sprint but rumored to arrive on Verizon soon. Anyone else excited to see if Android phones work better or worse then the iPhone with AT&T’s 3G?
