Microsoft opened CES last night with talk about Windows 7 and gaming. What they didn’t go into detail about is Windows Mobile. Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, did happen to whip the HTC HD2 out of his pocket for a second. He said the HTC HD 2 will be coming to T-Mobile ‘soon’. T-Mobile currently has a mailing list set up so you can be notified when the HTC HD2 will be available. Go here to get your name on the list. In case you have forgotten, the HTC HD 2 is the device with a monstrous 4.3″ screen at 800×480 resolution, 1Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512 MB of ROM, 488 MB of RAM, and comes with HTC’s Sense UI. Ballmer also decided to throw out a bit of a tease for what’s to come.
Ballmer said that there will be more details on Windows Mobile at the Mobile World Congress event which is held in February. We are hoping this means they are launching some new hardware with 6.5 and finally announcing the long-awaited Windows 7. LG reaffirmed this likelihood at their press event by saying “Windows Mobile 7 will be on devices later this year”. So get ready folks, it seems that the time for Microsoft’s big move back into the mobile forefront is just around the corner.
