Review: The Nexus One, does it compare to today’s top phones?

It is 2010 folks and the new phones are already coming out in droves. We have heard an official announcement that the HD 2 is coming to T-Mobile, the new Palm Pre/Pixi Plus hit Verizon at the end of this month, and the current star of the show, the ‘Nexus One’ from Google. On January 5th, just days before 2010′s CES, Google held a press event promoting their new baby. The Nexus One. There was so much hype generated prior to launch caused by Google’s decision to hand out the Nexus One to their employees. We saw tweets saying things like ‘iPhone on steroids’ and ‘Android beautified’. Do these statements hold true? Does the Nexus One live up to the hype? Let’s take a look.

What to expect at the Apple event, iLife 2010, iPhone OS 4.0, uhh… oh and a tablet

Clayton Morris of FoxNews.com claims to have spoken to a source inside Apple about their upcoming event. He said that there are 3 main products Apple will focus on at the event.

1. iLife 2010, Clayton says iLife 2010 is going to be introduced and discussed at the event. In itself this topic isn’t too exciting for the general consumer market but it is a product line Apple needs to keep evolving due to the lead that Microsoft has with its new 2010 office suite. There have also been rumors that iLife will have multi-touch support. This falls in line with a recent rumor Engadget spoke about that a multi-touch iMac may be on the horizon. Put all that together and you have something that is actually pretty interesting.

2. iPhone OS 4.0. We reported on this earlier but Clayton says that iPhone OS 4.0 is something we can expect to see at the event. He didn’t report about anything specific that has to do with the update except that they are calling it iPhone 4.There will not be a hardware announcement, but a demo of the upcoming software. This would be an update shown off ahead of schedule when compared to iPhone OS 3.0 but last year iPhone owners received iPhone 2.1 and 2.2 which brought new features. iPhone OS is still at 3.0.1. Any updates or news of updates is welcome for iPhone owners out there.

3. Last but not least we have the tablet. Still no word on if it is going to be called the iSlate, iTablet, iTouch, or whatever else you can think of. Actually he had no details about the device at all except for the fact that ‘a tablet device is coming’. So you can still hold your fantasies close to your heart because we haven’t received any details just yet.

So there you have it folks. We will continue to release whatever information we can get as it comes. This next week is going to be so exciting as the long-awaited tablet either is or is not announced.

GTA Chinatown Wars comes to the iPhone

The iPhone is thriving in the smartphone market and a big part of that is due to 3D games. iPhone has huge developers like EA, Gameloft, Rockstar, and more developing games for it, which is why it is offering the most robust 3D games in its App Store. Well Chinatown Wars just hit the App Store and it does NOT disappoint. The graphics are really impressive, the controls are very usable due to the directional circle in the bottom left of the screen. Good graphics, decent frame rate, and a game that already has a huge following. Definitely a win for Apple’s App Store. Does this compete with the PSP version or even the Nintendo DS version? There does seem to be some frame stutters during gameplay that you can see in the video below. Check out the YouTube video demoing some of the features in the new GTA and you decide.

Nokia Ovi event this Thursday

So Apple isn’t the only company that can hold an event out of nowhere. It looks like Nokia is holding an ‘Ovi’ specific event this Thursday. It will be held at the Paramount Club in Centre Point at 9:30AM. If you get there a little early Nokia will even serve some breakfast. It looks like breakfast is at 9:00AM, the event starts at 9:30AM, and there is a Q/A at 9:45. Does this mean the event is only 15 minutes? The time frame alone really doesn’t sound too promising but we’ll see. Let’s hope Nokia has something good to show off here. We don’t want their free breakfast to steal the whole show.

Apple event January 27th becomes official!
