Verizon 4G coming soon, just not with phones to start

At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Verizon executive Dick Lynch said that the company’s efforts to launch its 4G network are going according to plan. Today, Verizon is in what it calls “Phase 4″ of its tests of the LTE technology which will be used to power the 4G network. “Within 60 days,” Verizon expects the tests in Boston and Seattle to be complete, at which point Verizon will announce further parts of its rollout strategy. Microsoft has no plans to buy Research In Motion

Yes, you Blackberry wielding crack addicts can breath a sigh of relief.  When Reuters asked Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer if he would ever consider purchasing Blackberry maker Research In Motion, he responded with an answer some would call definite.

Motorola announces “Quench/Cliq XT”

The phone is a lot like a Motorola DEXT, without a QWERTY keyboard, and instead uses Swype which uses finger tracing text entry on-screen. The phone’s actual release date for the U.S is some time next month, available exclusively through T-Mobile USA (dubbed the Cliq XT in the U.S market). The release date outside of the U.S is TBA, but it will be under the name “Quench.” There is no announced price at this time.

For all of your Blackberry users, this is a must have! The video below is a quick demonstration of Celio’s Redfly smartphone dock and a BlackBerry. The dock replicates your smartphone screen on a monitor, allowing you to use it as a desktop. I’ve heard these units sell really well in the military, where smartphones are often used in lieu of laptops. Our Editor Dillon could probably tell us if that is the case.

Major carriers band together to from own Wholesale Applications Community

The world’s largest mobile phone carriers say they’re joining forces to make it easier for software developers to write apps that will run on as many phones as possible. The Wholesale Applications Community announced Monday at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is an attempt to retake the initiative from phone makers like Apple and Nokia, which have applications stores of their own. Air Coming to Android, in Adobe’s Attempt at Cross-Platform App Development

Adobe revealed recently at the MWC in Barcelona, Spain, that it will be strategically rolling out it’s Adobe Flash platform (to include Flash, AIR, Dev Tools, and Media Servers) as their solution to the cross-platform application portability problem.
