The guys over at Crackberry got their first hands-on with the Blackberry Playbook today. From what we can tell, the PlayBook, developed in cooperation with Adobe, is one slick running tablet. App developers should be pretty happy with the target market and ability to develop Flash enabled apps on this device. We look forward to seeing what the dev community can build on this platform.

In what was a rather unexpected move, RIM has decided to shut down Kik, the red-hot messenger app on Blackberry. RIM has given no explanation for this closure, so we can only speculate that it may have something to do with a security flaw or a competing messenger app.

RIM is coming back strong announcing there rumored tablet, the Blackberry Playbook. Many people were wondering how RIM could show they are a strong company and not get pushed around and by the look of the specs on this bad boy, RIM is not going anywhere.

Many people try to forget the Blackberry Storm series but to me I always encourage users to try them. I had a Storm and Storm2 (on AT&T) and I never complained, I loved the big screen and Surepress took some getting used to but I became a pro at it. We don’t know where RIM is heading with the series but todays brings us a look at the possible future of the device. BerryReview received what looks to be an actual Storm 3. You can see the Trackpad in the middle but the look of it looks just like the Storm2. They also say the device will have a 3.7 inch display and 8gb internal memory as well as having a Hotspot feature built in. I am liking the look of this but why have a trackpad when the whole screen is a touchscreen itself? We can all say RIM makes some weird design choices.

Even we were blown away at this pretty stupid marketing move on Microsoft’s part. It looks as if Microsoft is so stoked about the new RTM (short for Release To Manufacturing) of the Windows Phone 7 OS, that Redmond decided to hold a parade. Now we believe that Microsoft is headed in the right direction, and personally I look forward to WP7 release. But to call out Blackberry and iPhone when both OS’ have been outselling your OS for a while now, is a ballsy move in our eyes. Let’s just hope that WP7 lives up to the hype or Microsoft will never be able to live this down.

Earlier today, a video came out showing the Blackberry Bold 9700 with OS6 running and being shown off. Now a couple hours later, the Blackberry Bold 9780, which is suppose to be a “refresh” of the 9700 has a video showing off OS6 on the device. As you can see, runs real fast and looks exactly like the 9700, which is why it is just a refresh. The 9780 still is not an official device yet but will presumably be a GSM device on AT&T and T-Mobile in due time.

The Blackberry Torch just came out about a week ago and it is already getting the smack down from mobile tech sites all over the web. The problem with the Torch is not the look per say, some love how it looks and some hate it. The biggest issue is lag. At this point in the mobile industry, after what people went through with iPhone OS 1.0/2.0, Android 1.0-1.6, and WebOS 1.0-1.4.5, people simply do not want to deal with lag. There are now options out there for devices without lag. There is a slew of Android 2.0 and higher handsets that run smooth, the iPhone 3GS and 4 run smooth, and there are a ton of Blackberry handsets that run as smooth as butter. This Blackberry 9700 is one of them. BGR does a walk-through of the 9700 running Blackberry OS 6 and it runs super fast. Even the browser is an improvement over the Torch. So why RIM why?! I waited to post the on the launch day of the Blackberry Torch to make it a special Blackberry day. None the less, the second Blackberry 6 was announced and it is the Blackberry Curve 3G. What makes this special from other Curves out there? I know we can all rule out the look because it looks the same as other Curves but the Blackberry runs OS 6 on 256mb of memory, I thought Blackberry 6 phones needed 512mb though? It also has the optical trackpad, Wi-Fi, and built in GPS. Not too exciting but I am sure when the Curve is released later this month, it will be affordable. It is good that RIM is selling a high-end and low-end Blackberry 6, they are giving customers a choice. Anyone looking at this as there next Blackberry? Read more of this post

Whoa! It seems as though the sky falling and RIM headed towards an uphill battle against governments which want access to private, secured data on Blackberry users phones. RIM’s stock did slide by four percent margin again on Wednesday after dropping by a similar margin on Tuesday. Today as of 2:50 p.m. Pacific time, RIM’s stock was up 1.22 percent. With the release of the new Blackberry Torch 9800 slider, running RIM’s new OS6 coupled with UAE, Saudi Arabia and now Indonesia all banning RIM’s devices due to the powerful encryption software Blackberry uses. This encryption does not allow the governments to eavesdrop on possible terrorists or other criminals subjects.
In response to this news, Goldman Sachs make “sell” recommendations on RIM, making the stock sink 4.46 per cent Wednesday to close at $54.24. The stock has fallen more than 20 per cent in 2010 as it Apple’s iPhone 4 and Google Android have made a major dent into BlackBerry market in North America.
