Nokia N9 gets photographed, looks like a Macbook Air Nano

It seems these days there are more Nokia leaks than actual launches. Yesterday we saw the C7 leak, today we are seeing some pictures of the new Nokia N9. This is another home run in the hardware department for Nokia. It looks like some sort of Macbook/Macbook Air look-alike with a similar black chiclet keyboard. The phone looks like it might be kind of large, but that keyboard looks just amazing to type on. The light color with dark black keys looks pretty amazing on a phone. Now if only Nokia could make Symbian, Meego, or Maemo compelling for developers and users alike, I think we would be somewhere. Check out a few more photos after the break…
Nokia N8 not the only phone getting Symbian 3 love, C7 debuts on camera [Update - Video]

The Nokia N8 has been discussed for a while now. The N8 will feature some of Nokia’s best hardware , until now that is. The C7, which has just posed for some glamor shots at Mobile.Zol, seems like it might take the cake in the beauty department. As you can see from the photos above and below, the C7 has a somewhat similar design to the N8, but with this gold-ish metallic finish that looks quite stunning if I do say so myself. We aren’t clear on the specs or release date, but we do know it will be running Symbian 3, have an 8MP Camera, and feature a similar screen to the Nokia N8. Microsoft Office mobile suite eventually coming to all smartphones?

One of the biggest advantages of owning a Windows Phone, aside from the exchange support and security, is the mobile Office Suite. Microsoft has a great Office Suite on Windows Phone 6.5 and is bringing what looks to be an even better offering for Windows Phone 7. What is interesting is that it seems Microsoft is interested in getting its Microsoft Office products to other smartphone platforms such as Nokia. Nokia N8 final Symbian N Series device? Not so fast

Reports by CNET and others this morning have stated that Nokia’s N8 would be the last of the Symbian operating system. According to the reports, Nokia would switch to the now preferred MeeGo OS for their flagship N series handsets. But the man of the hour, who has held Nokia and other phones in his hands before some of the best gadget sites in the world, Eldar Murtazin, editor-in-chief of Mobile Review, has other things to say. He states that “Nokia N8 is not a final Symbian device in Nseries. Cnet misunderstand Nokia as i see it. It will be at least 3-4 devices more.”
So before everyone starts believing that the N series will not be sporting anymore Symbian here in the next few handsets, you can be sure that Eldar has some pretty decent connects and so far has not led us wrong with his intel.

53 Percent of Smartphones will have Flash in 2012

That picture represents how Steve Jobs feel about Flash, he thinks it is slow, buggy and not the future, but Adobe is not worried about him. According to Anup Murarka, director of technical marketing for mobile and devices at Adobe claims 53 percent of all smartphones shipping in 2012 will support Flash. She also says “You’re going to see Flash not only on Android. Consumers will see devices from Palm, Research in Motion Ltd’s Blackberry, Nokia’s Symbian and Microsoft Windows Phone 7 support the full Flash Player,” Murarka said. “Maybe we don’t get to the iPhone or iPad. If anything, we’re seeing continued growth in the install base and the usage of Flash and we see that continuing to grow.” By predicting its Flash Player would be in over 250 million smartphones by the end of 2012, Adobe said it expects its Flash software to be supported in 53 per cent of the more than 300 million smartphones expected to ship in 2012. Industry analysts predict more than 200 million smartphones to be sold in 2010, with close to 10 percent of those carrying Flash. So is Jobs making a mistake by openly not supporting Flash? Will HTML5 be able to grow enough in two years to compete with Flash? It is going to be an interesting to watch how this unfolds.

Nokia N8 used to record Rihanna live in concert, looks and sounds pretty good

Video recording on phones has proven to be pretty useless in low light situations. Even the best camera phones like the Droid Incredible take terrible videos in the dark and in concert areas with a lot of movement and loud audio its even worse. The Nokia N8 on the other hand, is producing some pretty impressive results. Yeah it’s not perfect, but you have to consider the following. They are in a low light concert situation, there is a ton of movement, and even high quality hand-held cameras have trouble recording video through smoke machine fog. The Nokia N8 still looks pretty damn smooth, the audio is decent though it sounds like there is some article of clothing or maybe the camera mans hand rubbing the microphone, and the high action recording during sudden movements looks pretty smooth. This is to be expected from the likes of Nokia. Especially in a phone rocking a 12MP camera. Don’t believe me? Have a look.

Samsung i8920 Omnia HD2 runs Symbian has Super AMOLED display with 12MP camera

Look what we have here? It appears to be the last line of Samsung phones rocking Symbian OS (as Samsung has said that they will focus on Android from here on out). The i8920 Omnia HD2 will sport a 4 inch Super AMOLED display, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, 12MP autofocus camera with both Xenon and LED flash, HD video recording (720p) at 30fps, and 16/32 GB of internal memory. We do not know when (or if) this sexy beast will be released but rest assured if it hits, there should be some decent sales for the muscle packing handset.

GetJar Study: Mobile Apps To Grow $17 Billion by 2012

I had an opportunity to sit down with Bill Scott, V.P. Sales & Business Development of GetJar.com at last years Mobilize event in San Francisco to discuss mobile apps. Today, GetJar, the premiere independent mobile app store with more than 60,000 mobile apps on hand for major mobile platforms: Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile, put out a study that predicts a gold rush in the number of mobile apps and the increase in size of the mobile app marketplace.
According to the study, performed by Chetan Sharma Consulting, mobile app downloads should jump from 7 billion in 2009 to almost 50 billion in 2012. The market is estimated to be worth approximately 17 billion dollars. GetJar CEO Ilja Laurs makes another statement, echoing the one from a Google executive. “It is easy to see how mobile apps will eclipse the traditional desktop Internet. It makes perfect sense that mobile devices will kill the desktop,” he said. Mr. Laurs backs up this claim with more data from the study, citing that 17% of GetJar users spend more time on internet-linked smartphones than they do on desktops.
